How can we help?
Find quick answers below, or open the guide in the app's Help menu. And if you write to us, a real person will reply.
Do I need to be online?
Only to download or share models, check for updates (you can turn the daily check off in Settings), and use online services you add yourself. Chatting, shrinking, customising and testing models all work offline, and your models and conversations stay on your Mac. Privacy policy
Will it run on my Mac?
If your Mac has Apple silicon and runs macOS 26 or later, yes. ZMatrix is built to run well with 16 GB of memory, and Macs with more can run bigger models. Before loading anything, it tells you whether a model will fit and what would help if it won't.
Which models can I use?
Thousands of open models from Hugging Face, plus your own files. ZMatrix works with the popular formats (Hugging Face, MLX and GGUF), converts between them, and can export models for Apple's Core ML.
Will changes affect my original model?
Never. Every change creates a new version, and copies take almost no extra space. You can go back, branch off or compare versions at any time, and each model remembers exactly how it was made.
Direct download or Mac App Store?
Both give you the full app. The direct download adds the command line, native plugins, local tool servers and power readings, and when you check for updates it opens the new version for you to install. The Mac App Store version updates itself through the App Store. Compare them
Do I need a Mac to use the phone app?
No. ZMatrix AI Companion downloads models made for your phone and runs them right on it, even offline. On iPhone, connecting to a Mac is optional, and gives you its bigger models too.
Is there an Android app?
Yes. ZMatrix AI Companion for Android runs models on your Android phone, even offline, and keeps your chats on the phone. It needs Android 10 or later on a 64-bit phone and is coming soon to Google Play. Connecting to a Mac with ZMatrix Link is on iPhone. See the Android app
When my iPhone talks to my Mac, does anyone else see it?
No. There's no account and no server of ours in between. Your devices find each other through small encrypted notes in Apple's iCloud that only they can read, may use Google's public address lookup to connect, and then talk directly, fully encrypted.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Chinese (Simplified), French, German, Hindi, Japanese, Kannada, Malayalam, Spanish, Tamil and Telugu. Pick yours when you first open the app, or any time in Settings.
Something isn't working. What should I do?
Email [email protected] and tell us what you were doing and what happened. Help › Export Diagnostics… saves a report you can attach. It never reads your conversations, datasets or models.
